Louisiana and France sharing experiences and solutions in Coastal Preservation and Coastal Risks Management
From May 13th to 16th, a delegation of French experts in Coastal Risks Prevention and Coastal Preservation came to Louisiana to meet with Louisianan counterparts.
Members of the delegation included two representatives of the French Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy ; two representatives of the Aquitaine region ; and three academic or professional experts of coastal challenges, water management, and risk reduction.

The French delegation came upon the invitation of the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA), and echoes the visit of Mrs. Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet in 2011. Then Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transports and Housing, she had met with Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, the US Army Corps of Engineers, America’s Wetland Foundation, and other officials.
This visit aimed at creating connections between French and Louisianans experts in order to share experience, best practices, and solutions to face similar problems on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

On the 14th, the delegation of experts participated to a workshop at Tulane University, organized by the School of Law and the Water Institute.

They were then in Baton Rouge to meet with the CPRA, the Water Institute and LSU academics. Later that day they met with the French community and the Mayor of Baton Rouge.

On Thursday, after a panel on exchanges between the European Union and Louisiana on environmental topics, the delegation visited the new levee system around New Orleans, organized by the National Wildlife Foundation, and then the floodgate in Houma, where they also met with Terrebonne Parish President, Mr. Michel Claudet.
